A 3D Conversational Agent for Presenting Digital Information for Deaf People

چکیده
Sign languages appear to be the major communication tool for the deaf community. As a minor community, Vietnamese deaf people often have to rely on a small numbers of interpreters who are hearing people knowing sign language in order to communicate with hearing people. It would be very beneficial for deaf as well as hearing people to develop an automated translation system between spoken/written languages and sign language. In this paper, we present our attempt to graphically decompose the gestures in Vietnamese Sign Language so that they can be easily synthesized in a 3D conversational agent. In order to describe the signs in Vietnamese Sign Language, we proposed an animation-level markup language. Based on this, we presented our 3D conversational agent for presenting multi-modal information for deaf people. The 3D agent can assist deaf people easier and in a more natural way. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2009. Author

Evaluation of Gait Variability in Deafness and Comparing it with Normal-hearing Listeners After a Course of Interventional Proprioceptive Training
Objective: Gait variability index is an important index in the clinical treatment of people with walking problems. Since the variability of gait behavior in deaf people has not been evaluated so far, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the walking variability of deaf people and compare it with normal-hearing listeners. Methods: The statistical population of this study was deaf and hearin...

Purpose: Digital library user interfaces has a determining role in desirable performance of this kind of libraries. Digital Library service providers to the blind and deaf users will have their best performance when the users (deaf and blind users) could have a proper interaction with them. This study aims to evaluate and analyze the criteria related to user interface in digital libraries servi...
متن کاملAssessment of Balance Recovery Strategies During Manipulation of Somatosensory, Vision, and Vestibular Systems in Deaf Persons
Purpose: Sensory systems play an essential role in motor control. The lack of information about each of these systems can affect postural sway. This study aimed to assess balance recovery during the manipulation of somatosensory, visual, and vestibular systems in deaf persons. Methods: Thirty healthy and deaf subjects were selected as samples. Balance recovery strategies in various situations ...
متن کاملDeveloping a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information
With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...
متن کاملStudying Balance in Deaf People: A Systematic Review Study
Objective Damage to parts of the vestibulocochlear nerve not only results in sensory-neural hearing loss and deafness but may also lead to balance problems. This is the reason why the hearing-impaired and deaf people are struggling with balance problems. Given the ever-increasing development of the adaptive sports, specific to the deaf, who are considered as part of the active individuals in th...
